Raffle rules

These rules are our terms of service. They apply to every raffle on Win For Good, and you accept them when you buy a ticket. Each raffle’s page adds its own prize, ticket price, number of tickets and closing date.

  1. Who runs the raffles

Win For Good NPC runs its raffles as society lotteries under the Lotteries Act 57 of 1997, registered with the National Lotteries Commission (no. 00570). The net proceeds of each raffle - what’s left after the prize and the costs of running it - go to the good cause named on its page.

  2. Who can enter

You must be 18 or older to buy a ticket. Directors, staff and volunteers of the organiser who help run the raffles, and the people they live with, may not enter. A raffle can limit how many tickets one person may buy; the limit is shown on its page.

  3. Tickets

Every ticket in a raffle costs the same - there are no bulk discounts. You’re entered only once the full price has been paid: tickets are issued when your payment is confirmed, and their numbers are emailed to you. A ticket is a chance to win, not a donation, so it doesn’t qualify for a section 18A tax certificate.

  4. The draw

Entries close on the closing date, and the draw is on the draw date shown on the raffle page and your ticket - 3 minutes after entries close, unless a later date is given. If every ticket sells first, sales stop, but the draw stays on its date. Public randomness decides the winning ticket. The winning ticket is picked at random from all tickets sold. Before entries open we publish a sealed commitment. The deciding randomness is the round of the drand public randomness beacon published at the draw time - 3 minutes after entries close, unless the raffle gives a later draw date - fixed by that rule, not chosen by anyone - and we then reveal the seed so anyone can check the result. Draws take place online at winforgood.co.za.

  5. If a raffle doesn’t sell out: postponing

If not enough tickets have sold, we can postpone the closing date - and the draw with it - before that date arrives, to give the raffle more time. The new date is shown on the raffle page and emailed to everyone holding a ticket, and every ticket stays valid and in the draw. Otherwise entries close on the closing date and the winner is picked from the tickets that were sold. Tickets are never refunded or moved to another raffle.

  6. Refunds and cancellations

Tickets can’t be refunded or moved to another raffle. Until you’ve paid, you can cancel at checkout or simply leave it: nothing is charged, and the tickets held for you go back on sale.

If a payment comes through when its raffle can no longer take it - after it has closed or sold out, for example - no tickets are issued and the full amount is refunded to the account you paid from.

If not enough tickets have sold, we may postpone the closing date before it arrives. Ticket holders are emailed the new date, and their tickets stay valid. If we have to cancel a raffle, there’s no draw. We email everyone holding a ticket to explain what happens to their tickets and their money.

  7. Winners and prizes

We email the winner - and phone them, if they gave a number - as soon as we’ve checked and published the result. To claim the prize, contact us within 30 days and show ID that matches the name on the ticket and proves you’re 18 or older. A ticket bought with a false age or name can’t win. We publish the winning ticket number, not the winner’s name. The prize is what its raffle page describes. Anything the page doesn’t list as included - such as delivery, licensing, registration or insurance - is the winner’s to arrange. If a raffle offers a cash alternative to its prize, the raffle page and the tickets show its value.

  8. Accounting

Each raffle is run and accounted for separately, and reported to the National Lotteries Commission after its draw.

  9. Your information

We use your details to issue your tickets, to contact you if you win and to keep the records the law asks of a lottery. Our privacy policy explains what we keep, for how long, and your rights.

  10. Questions and complaints

Get in touch at info@winforgood.co.za, or use the contact form. If we can’t resolve a complaint about a raffle, you can take it to the National Lotteries Commission. These rules are governed by South African law.
